A Concept SM

Do you remember the Citroen SM? The futurist coupe produced between 1970 and 1975 ? Fitted with originally a 2.7 V6 Maserati engine, then the later years with a 3.0 V6. The choice of engines was due to Citroen owning Maserati since 1968 and the desire to build a high performance Grand Tourer.

DS Automobiles which branched off from Citroen 10 years ago, have built a SM Tribute concept car. Whilst retaining a similar shape and features of the original, technology is obviously evident which includes a curved see through screen console, and futuristic lighting arrangements. The seat design has been retained. Future models from DS will be inspired by this SM build. You never know, DS may in future put this concept SM into production.

Putting The Classic To Bed

As the nights are pull in, the temperature drops and the official end of the summer, those with a classic car will now either store it away, put it under a cover or if it’s really lucky, be driven on the roads in the coming winter months. Some classics are insured by owners for 6 months, March through August. This reduces the insurance premium paid but restricts that classic going for a run on a sunny winter’s day. Old vehicles like to be driven, keeping their joints lubricated, tyres spun, fluids moving and the electrics active.

You have had your six months of fun, now you must wait until the Spring. If you are lucky enough to have a dry garage, storge facility option, access to a rented council garage or space in your lounge with bi-folding doors for access, then your vehicle will be safe during its hibernation. Invest in a trickle charger if you have not already.

This will keep your battery healthy over the period. Spin your wheels around monthly if possible to avoid flat spotting the tyres. Before you store it away, give it a good shampoo to remove any debris on the paintwork. Periodically place inside the interior, a moisture trap with a water collector to grab the moisture from any damp air in the car.
