Electric Mercedes G Wagon Launching

Launching in Bejing on the 24th of this month, the 45 year old SUV in civilian clothing that was launched in 1979, has an all electric variant now in its line-up. The model will be called the G 580. Its powertrain will be placed on the exiting ladder frame chassis. Mercedes will utilise the battery set-up on its current EQC models.

Obviously there will be more tech onboard and LED lighting in various guises integrated into its design. It will be interesting to see how its off-road capabilities compare to other marques electric SUV’s. No pricing has been quoted yet, but is likely to start over the £100k threshold.

New Mercedes G500 Loses Two Cylinders

The new version of the G500 is now powered by a straight six cylinder engine, trimmed down from the previously fitted V8. The reduction in engine size is a common theme amongst manufacturers in recent years, erring on the side of producing more efficient engines and the choice of hybrid and full electric variants.

Some new colours have been launched such as the  sodalite blue metallic (see photo).  New changes to the body include a four slot front grille, a new bumper and new wheel options.

A neat feature is a camera that views the terrain under the vehicle which will aid feedback and safe progression when driving off road. For the G Wagen enthusiasts out there, the AMG G63 retains its twin-turbo fire breathing V8. For what looks like the drag coefficient of a house brick, the G63 reaches a top speed of 149mph. This has been helped by a re-design of it’s A-pillar and a lip above the windscreen that acts as a spoiler.

60th Anniversary Mustang

Anyone that has a slight interest in cars in the UK will recognise the american icon, the Ford Mustang. The model is now 60 years old and going on strong.

The seventh generation was launched this year and a 60th anniversary model has been produced. The mustang has rolled off the production line in since March 1964. Recognisable for the mustang horse and the iconic vertical three bar design which ends up on each new generation model in one form or another.

This anniversary edition is available in coupe and convertible guise. Ford say only the apt number of 1965 units will be produced. Fitted with the standard V8, manual and automatic transmission variants are available to purchase. Bespoke anniversary changes to this model include a unique set of five spoke 20 inch alloys, appropriate stripes and badging and a re-designed front grille.

This pony car that is now legendary, will probably cost around £60k on UK shores. Canter or maybe gallop down to your Ford dealership to secure one as these will no doubt become collectable.
